Sorry, but this episode is running a day late. For some reason I couldn't get online last night or this morning.
I left Kimmerer Saturday morning to very cool temperatures and a LOT of clouds. As it turned out, all those clouds had Rain in them, 'cause it came down in buckets. I rode north of Kimmerer toward Jackson with plans to ride on up through Yellowstone and down to Idaho Falls for the night. You can see from the pics below just how the skies looked out in the wilderness:
And, the weather went downhill from there. About 75 miles north of Kimmerer, I rounded a corner and a huge black cloud was spanning from the left to the right as far as I could see. The road turned again, and I was running parallel with the front and thought "Hey, I can probably get around this thing without getting wet." HA. About five miles later, I came to a "T" intersection and had to go left, right into the front. Fortunately, there was a pretty big gas station about 1/2 mile up the road that was quickly filling up with very wet motorcyclers. I shot in, took up a space beside a gas pump, didn't even buy any gas, and went inside and huddled down for about an hour as the skies opened up. They finally cleared enough that I decided to head on out, but by now I had decided to just go to Jackson and then turn to Idaho Falls. BTW...the temperature was about 50 degrees and some of the passes were up around 8,000 feet. Anyway, made it to Jackson, rode around the downtown area once, got some gas, and headed on out through the Bridger-Teton National Forest. I did get a couple shots in between rain showers:
I ended up diving into one more gas station between Jackson and Idaho Falls. It was pretty interesting. I is located at the intersection of US26 and ID31 in Swan Valley, ID. They serve ice cream cones with square ice cream in them and have since 1946. Worth the trip to Swan Valley just for that!
Anyway, I got into Idaho Falls around 5:00 and...all my all-weather gear worked like a charm. I wasn't even damp.
